Kajol’s Maa attempts to combine emotions with supernatural suspense, but it ends getting stuck in a tangled gap between the two. The promising story about a grieving mother is soon a sluggish horror film that lacks genuine terror and narrative momentum. Although Kajol performs with conviction but the film struggles to keep the tension going, making the film more an emotional drama incorporating elements of horror rather than a genuine thriller. If you’re hoping for thrilling thrills but are disappointed, you’ll be left feeling.

Maa Movie Review: Plus Points
Although the story that tells of the love of mother, and the determination of her to reach the greatest extents to protect her daughter might appear to be normal, there are a few scenes in Maa that make an impression. It also presents elements that are related to myths and myths, which add an interesting dimension to the story.
Kajol is, as always is a dazzling performer. She shows impressive acting skills as she demonstrates determination to safeguard her daughter. Her character’s evolution from being straightforward in the first half, to impressive in the latter half is effectively executed. The pre-climax and the climax sequences create a lasting impression.
Maa Movie Review: Minus Points
The lack of freshness in the plot is perhaps the film’s biggest problem. The way that the narration is done, as old movies, is dull. The first part, particularly, is a slow and monotonous experience. The lack of enthusiasm in the narrative also dries out the interest of the audience.
While there are exciting scenes in the second part, the gap between them impedes the flow of the film. There are times when it’s unclear the reason for certain scenes being included in the story.
Maa’s tale has too numerous unnecessary scenes inserted in the interest of expanding the plot. Even though the plot is well thought-out but the execution doesn’t meet expectations.
Maa Movie Review: Technical Aspects
Director Vishal Furia wasn’t able to handle the narrative and tone of the film. His main focus was the VFX and horror elements which led the story to diverge from its intended direction. Cinematography isn’t much of an added value and edit could be better. Positively background music is well-constructed and the production quality are acceptable.
